Jennifer Starkweather & Amanda Hughen
THE AIRPORT PROJECT

The Airport Project is a new collaborative series of six prints in which the artists isolate and overlap forms and patterns based on seven airports. Each airport is the subject of an artwork -- Chicago O¹Hare (ORD), Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL), John F Kennedy (JFK), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), and San Francisco/Oakland (SFO/OAK) -- with the exception of the San Francisco and Oakland airports which were combined to create a single piece.

On one layer, Starkweather drew with ink, graphite and gouache to articulate the individual routes of airlines that originate from each airport. On additional layers, Hughen mapped the various services available at each terminal; various airline departures; and color systems used for airport parking garages.  She also created solid color shapes based on the runways and highways surrounding each airport.
